New Delhi, May 08, 2020:With a population of 1.3bn under varying stages of lockdown, where there is limited access to markets and supply chains are disrupted, one of the daily items that are missing from the listed essential goods are stationery and scholastic supplies.

In a letter to ministry of home affairs the stationery industry appeals marking Stationery & scholastic items  as “Essential”  so that apart from stationery shops, e-commerce platforms like Flipkart, Amazon etc. can sell them to the  people studying and working from home, along with Hospitals, Media houses, and other businesses that would require supplies for regular and uninterrupted operations.

As India  inches closer to staggering opening of the economy, some states have declared an extension of lockdown whereas some have resumed partial operations.  Allowing purchase of stationery items i- stores and on websites can help in ensuring people continue to social distance while their needs are fulfilled at their doorsteps. While schools and educational institutes are unlikely to open before the end of July, Making Stationery & scholastic items “essential” can ensure safety of people until the situation is handled.
