Indian Ducati fans will be much delighted to learn that five new models so far unavailable in the country will be launched this year. The first of these launches will take place in June-July, and the rest too will happen within four consecutive months. With the launch of these models, nearly all of Ducati’s product line up will be available in India. The models in question are the Multistrada 950, the Monster 797, the Scrambler Desert Sled, Scrambler Café Racer and the SuperSport. “There is nothing that we offer internationally that we don’t intend to make available to customers in India,” Managing Director Ducati India Ravi Avalur told Autocar India.
Ducati is now bringing in the entry-level motorcycles of the Multistrada and Monster range to India with the launch of Multistrada 950 and the Monster 797. The Scrambler Desert Sled is a modified version of the Scrambler with better off-roading capabilities, while the Scrambler Cafe Racer too is modified but for more of urban riding. The SuperSport is a version of the Monster with fairing, and is powered by a 937cc, twin-cylinder engine that produces 113 hp at 9,250 rpm.
As the brand did earlier, the motorcycles will be shipped from Ducati’s manufacturing plant in Thailand as Completely Built Units (CBU). Considering recent introduction of BMW Motorrad in India, Ducati’s move seems well timed, and the brand can expect to go neck and neck with the German rival.
BMW Motorrad recently launched several of its models in India, and the launch of the G310 R and G310 GS soon, the brand may create itself a stronghold in the Indian motorcycle market.
